My Competitions Journey
Picture me over a decade ago, a happy-go-lucky university student, living off cup noodles and just trying to make ends meet. I had a casual job in a supermarket to pay the rent but not much else. Overall, a pretty common story line for a young Australian.
Though certainly not destitute, there came a time where I thought to myself… I’d really love some new clothes, a new phone *sigh*. “Surely there’s got to be a way to earn free luxuries on the side, without paying for them? ” I laughed to myself.
One day whilst shopping for my latest batch of cup noodles, an advertisement caught my eye – “WIN! A trip to Fiji!” Sure, I thought. Still gotta pay for products to enter it though.
Suddenly it dawned on me. I thought surely there are free competitions out there, not requiring a monetary investment.
That night I did some internet research, and boy was I right. Promoters the world over LOVE to give away prizes to push their products out there and get noticed. I’d just stumbled upon my newest hobby and addiction that over a decade later, is still as amazing as day one!
Online competitions, giveaways, sweepstakes, word-or-less entries, random draw, creative craft entries, surveys, video entries. The types of FREE competitions are never ending.
Over time I have won holidays, flights, cash, electronics, gift vouchers, a barbecue, clothes and footwear, health and beauty products, kitchen appliances, movie tickets (oohh so many movie tickets!) and MORE! *takes a deep breath*
Yes, this hobby is a liiiittle bit addictive. You’ll find yourself obsessively checking emails and knowing the exact schedule of your street’s parcel delivery. But it’s definitely worth it when you find yourself jetting off on an all-expenses-paid trip to Thailand!
Being a a competition enter-er, you can give yourself the title of a ‘Comper’ if you live in Australia or England, a ‘Sweeper’ if you’re in the U.S.A, or even a ‘Contester’ if you’re in Canada!
I hope this blog will inspire others to give this wonderful hobby a go and I’d love to give you some tips and tricks along the way to help you win.
May the comping bug bite you!
